Trump Accepts Musk’s Apology, Calls It “Very Nice” but Stays Cautious
UNITED STATES — President Donald Trump has accepted an apology from tech billionaire Elon Musk, who admitted going too far in his recent social media criticism of the president. Trump called the move “very nice” but didn’t say whether their relationship would fully recover.
Musk had posted on Thursday that he regretted his harsh words.
“I regret some of my posts about President @realDonaldTrump last week. They went too far,” Musk wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
The apology followed several days of tension, during which Musk accused Trump of benefiting unfairly in the 2024 election and hinted he had blocked the release of documents related to Jeffrey Epstein. Musk later deleted those posts.

Trump responded on Friday morning during a phone call, saying he appreciated the gesture but didn’t say if he was ready to forgive or move on.
“I thought it was very nice that he did that,” Trump said.
The feud had grown last week after Musk claimed that Trump wouldn’t have won the 2024 election without his help. Trump hit back on his Truth Social platform, calling Musk “crazy” and accusing him of having “Trump Derangement Syndrome.” He even suggested reviewing Musk’s government contracts and mocked his past exit from a White House advisory role.

Behind the scenes, officials tried to calm things down. Vice President JD Vance and Trump’s chief of staff Susie Wiles reportedly spoke with Musk to clear the air.
Although it’s unclear whether Musk and Trump talked directly before Friday, sources say the administration is open to fixing the relationship—if Musk softens his approach.
Despite being upset, Trump kept his public comments mild. He referred to Musk as a former “first buddy” but didn’t completely close the door on future talks.
Interestingly, Musk’s recent posts have shown more support for Trump, especially during the ongoing unrest in Los Angeles. He reposted messages that praised Trump’s tough stance on riots and used an American flag emoji in response to JD Vance’s tweet.
Vance commented:
“The president is a little frustrated, but he doesn’t want to turn this into a big fight. If Elon calms down, things will probably be fine.”
Asked if he plans to speak with Musk again, Trump said:
“I haven’t really thought about it. I’d imagine he wants to talk to me. If I were him, I’d want to talk to me.”
Then added: “I would not have a problem.
