Tinubu Cancels June 12 Democracy Day Broadcast, To Address Nigerians at National Assembly
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has cancelled his scheduled national broadcast for Democracy Day on June 12. Instead, he will deliver his address at a joint session of the National Assembly.
This was announced in a statement by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations, on Wednesday. The change is due to the President’s official participation in the Assembly’s special session.
Other Democracy Day activities remain unchanged. There will be no parade, but a public lecture themed “Consolidating on the Gains of Nigeria’s Democracy: Necessity of Enduring Reforms” will hold at 4 p.m. at the State House Conference Centre.
This year marks 26 years of uninterrupted democracy in Nigeria and the third Democracy Day under President Tinubu’s administration. The day, originally marked on May 29, was moved to June 12 in 2018 to honour the annulled 1993 election won by MKO Abiola.
