WAPA Trains 68 Instructors to Strengthen Vocational Skills Delivery in Lagos
In a bid to deepen the impact of its vocational education programmes, the Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) has trained 68 skills instructors across various centres in the state.
The capacity-building workshop, held on Wednesday, was designed to enhance the teaching methods and innovation of instructors responsible for grooming thousands of Lagos residents in different trades.
Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Mrs. Bolaji Dada, said the initiative aligns with the Sanwo-Olu administration’s vision to foster a self-reliant, skilled, and economically empowered population—particularly among women and vulnerable groups.

Represented by Mrs. Adejoke Oshodi-Olasunkanmi, Director of the Skill Acquisition Development Unit, the commissioner noted that the training focused on key vocational areas such as catering, hairdressing and cosmetology, and computer studies.
“This programme represents another milestone in our commitment to raise the quality of service delivery across all WAPA Skill Acquisition Centres,” Dada stated. “It’s not just about updating knowledge; it’s about sparking innovation, improving standards, and empowering our instructors to build a stronger vocational education system.”
According to her, when instructors are better equipped, trainees benefit through improved competence, greater employability, and better prospects for entrepreneurship.
She encouraged participants to fully embrace the opportunity and leverage the training to enhance their teaching craft, stressing that the role of instructors as frontline educators is critical to the success of the state’s empowerment strategy.
