…Olugbile, Bright, Olubowale Applaud Victory, Describe It as Deserved Triumph for Health Journalism
Pharmanews has once again reaffirmed its dominance in the healthcare media landscape, reclaiming the coveted Print Media of the Year Award at the 2025 Nigerian Healthcare Excellence Award (NHEA). This marks the publication’s seventh historic win, solidifying its reputation as Nigeria’s most decorated health journal.
The feat comes as a remarkable comeback after narrowly missing out in 2024, with Pharmanews emerging victorious over other formidable nominees, including The Guardian, Vanguard, and Afrihealth Magazine. The announcement sparked widespread acclaim across the health sector, with key stakeholders hailing it as a testament to the publication’s consistency, quality reporting, and enduring relevance.

One of the first to react was Dr. Femi Olugbile, former Chief Medical Director of LASUTH and past Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Health, who presented the award at the event held at Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos. He described Pharmanews as a beacon of excellence.
“I read the e-version of Pharmanews constantly and find it both informative and entertaining. This award is well-deserved. The healthcare world is proud of Pharmanews,” he said.
Also celebrating the win was Pharm. (Mrs) Bisi Bright, public health advocate and founder of LiveWell Initiative (LWI), who noted that the victory was hard-earned amid rising competition in the health journalism space.
“The contest was incredibly tough this year. Many platforms are now doing great work, but Pharmanews fought its way back. Their determination was visible — they didn’t relent,” she said, while urging the team to sustain the quality and energy that defined their campaign this year.
Pharm. Gbenga Olubowale, former Chairman of the PSN Lagos, also praised the publication’s longstanding impact.
“Pharmanews has always set the pace in pharmaceutical journalism. We celebrate not only the legacy of Sir Ifeanyi Atueyi but also the continuity being demonstrated by the current team. It can only get better,” he remarked.

Receiving the award on behalf of the publisher, Mr. Patrick Iwelunmor, Editor of Pharmanews, expressed deep appreciation to loyal readers and supporters.

“This victory belongs to our readers, clients, and all who stood by us. Your votes and trust keep us going. We are humbled and inspired to do more,” he said.
Mr. Moses Dike, Business Development Manager at Pharmanews, added that the award reaffirms the publication’s legacy and commitment to national health advancement.
“Since 1979, Pharmanews has been shaping health conversations across Nigeria. This seventh win underscores our position not just as a publication, but as a national institution,” he stated.
The Nigerian Healthcare Excellence Award (NHEA) is organised by the Global Health Project and Resources (GHPR) in collaboration with Anadach Group, USA, with support from the PharmAccess Foundation. The annual event honours institutions and individuals that have made outstanding contributions to the country’s healthcare ecosystem.
Now in its 11th edition, the NHEA remains the gold standard for recognising innovation, advocacy, and impact in Nigeria’s health sector. Pharmanews’ latest win adds yet another feather to its cap as a leading force in health communication and journalism.
