Tragedy Strikes Football World: Liverpool Star Diogo Jota, Brother Killed in Spain Car Crash
The global football community is in mourning following the tragic death of Liverpool forward and Portuguese international Diogo Jota, who died in a car accident in Spain on the morning of Thursday, July 3, 2025. He was 28.
Jota, who was on holiday in Spain after helping Liverpool secure the 2024/2025 Premier League title, was travelling with his younger brother André Silva when their vehicle reportedly lost control on the A-52 highway near Palacios de Sanabria, in Zamora province. The car veered off the road and burst into flames, killing both men on the spot.

Eyewitnesses who arrived at the scene described the crash as catastrophic. Emergency responders were called immediately, but both brothers were confirmed dead before any medical intervention could be administered.
Jota’s sudden death has sent shockwaves through the sports world. At the time of filing this report, neither Liverpool FC nor the Portuguese Football Federation had released official statements, although sources close to the family confirmed the tragic loss.
The deceased had recently celebrated his wedding and was enjoying the off-season with his family. The news is even more heartbreaking considering Jota and his wife, Rute Cardoso, recently welcomed triplets.
