Presidency Blasts ADC Mega Coalition: “Desperate Politicians Grasping at Relevance”
The Nigerian Presidency has come out swinging against the newly formed opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), branding it a congregation of embittered politicians scrambling for political survival.
In a fiery reaction issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Information and Strategy, the Presidency dismissed the coalition as “a theatre of failed ambitions and political irrelevance,” accusing its members of being united by bitterness rather than any genuine vision for national development.

The ADC-led coalition, formally unveiled in Abuja, includes prominent political figures such as Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Nasir El-Rufai, Rotimi Amaechi, David Mark, and Rauf Aregbesola. However, Onanuga argued that the assembly represents nothing more than a gathering of personalities with bruised egos and unresolved political grievances.
“These individuals are not united by any coherent ideology or developmental agenda,” Onanuga said. “What binds them is a deep fear of political irrelevance and an unrelenting obsession with President Tinubu.”
He cited various examples to buttress his point, alleging that the likes of Amaechi left the APC out of frustration after losing the presidential ticket; Malami faded away after a poor political outing in Kebbi; Aregbesola was ousted for disloyalty; and Sirika is currently battling corruption allegations.

“These are not reformers or patriots. They are opportunists trying to revive dead careers,” he said.

Onanuga further dismissed the inclusion of figures like Kashim Imam and John Odigie-Oyegun, describing them as “spent political forces with no grassroots influence.”
“This coalition is not about the people. It’s a vanity project built on resentment toward a sitting president who is delivering on his mandate. Nigerians must not be deceived by this spectacle of convenience,” he added.
He concluded with a warning: “This alliance will inevitably crumble under the weight of its contradictions, because it has no soul, no vision, and certainly no future.”
The harsh response comes amid mounting political tension as Nigeria inches closer to the 2027 general elections, with observers closely watching whether the opposition can indeed unite and present a formidable challenge to the ruling party.
