Kano Court Hands Death Sentence to Man for Murder of 3-Year-Old Girl
A High Court in Kano State has sentenced a man, Aminu Muhammad, to death by hanging for the horrific murder of a three-year-old girl, Rafi’atu Junaidu, an incident that occurred in Jibga village, Bebeji Local Government Area, in 2018.
Delivering judgment at the Miller Road division on Wednesday, Justice Maryam Sabo ruled that the prosecution had proven its case beyond a reasonable doubt, describing the crime as “barbaric, heartless, and beyond human comprehension.”

According to court findings, Aminu lured the young girl away from her home to a nearby farm where he strangled her. In a shocking act of cruelty, he then used a broken bottle to slit open her abdomen and removed her intestines.
The prosecution, led by Barrister Badawiyya Shehu Bala, presented three compelling witnesses and detailed investigative evidence linking Aminu to the crime. The defence, however, failed to present any credible counterargument, relying solely on one item of evidence.
Adding to the gravity of the case, the court heard that Aminu may have carried out the murder on the instructions of an unknown individual who allegedly promised him a sum of ₦400,000. The identity of this person remains undisclosed, and authorities say investigations into the claim are still ongoing.
While delivering the verdict, Justice Sabo condemned the killing in strong terms and noted that the court’s ruling should send a clear message that such heinous crimes will not go unpunished, especially when committed against children.

“The court finds the accused guilty as charged and hereby sentences him to death by hanging,” she ruled.
The case, which dragged on for seven years, had stirred outrage in the community, with residents calling for swift and firm justice. Wednesday’s judgment marks the end of a long legal journey and a painful chapter for the victim’s family.
