Osun PDP Leaders Vow Loyalty to Governor Adeleke Amidst Defection Speculations
Leaders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State have pledged unwavering support for Governor Ademola Adeleke, amid growing speculations about his possible defection from the party. The development followed a strategic caucus meeting where party stalwarts reportedly resolved to align with any political decision the governor chooses to make.

In a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, on Monday, it was revealed that the meeting was held at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, where party leaders reaffirmed confidence in Adeleke’s leadership and performance since assuming office.
The gathering brought together representatives from critical arms of the party and government, including the National Assembly and State Assembly caucuses, members of the State Executive Council, the State Working Committee of the PDP, the Special Advisers’ Forum, the Elders Caucus, and the leadership of ALGON in Osun State.
According to the statement, Governor Adeleke briefed attendees on recent political developments, after which the party leaders reached a consensus through a communiqué.
“The Osun PDP leadership has resolved to stand firmly behind Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke and will follow his lead on whatever political path he decides to take,” the communiqué read. However, it also noted that the governor is still consulting widely with stakeholders across both state and national levels.
Opposition Group Warns Tinubu, APC Against Welcoming Adeleke
Meanwhile, the Osun Progressive Youth (O-SPY) has called on President Bola Tinubu and the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to remain cautious amid claims that Governor Adeleke enjoys broad support within Osun State ahead of the 2026 governorship election.

The group, through its coordinator Tunmise Ajiboye, warned that Adeleke’s reported interest in defecting to the APC should not be mistaken for widespread acceptance among Osun residents. In a statement, O-SPY claimed that the APC’s grassroots strength has only grown stronger since Adeleke emerged as governor, citing dissatisfaction with his governance style.
Ajiboye further alleged that the PDP has suffered a steady exodus of prominent figures to the APC since 2022, particularly individuals aligned with former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola.
“Amid the ongoing rumours of Governor Adeleke’s interest in joining the APC, we must state clearly that Osun people are prepared to reject both Adeleke and the PDP come 2026,” Ajiboye declared.
“Contrary to the narrative being pushed, the APC has maintained its members while attracting defections from the PDP since Adeleke took office.”
The debate over Adeleke’s political future continues to stir conversations in Osun’s political circles, with analysts watching closely how the PDP and APC navigate the evolving dynamics ahead of the next electoral cycle.
