President Tinubu Dispatches VP Shettima to UK to Repatriate Buhari’s Remains
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially confirmed the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away in London on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at approximately 4:30 p.m. following a prolonged illness.
In a statement released by the State House in Abuja, President Tinubu expressed his condolences to Buhari’s family, including a personal call to Mrs. Aisha Buhari, the late president’s widow, to convey his sympathy on behalf of the nation.
As part of the federal government’s response, President Tinubu has directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to proceed to the United Kingdom to accompany Buhari’s remains back to Nigeria for burial.

In tribute to Buhari’s legacy and years of service to the country, President Tinubu also ordered all national flags across Nigeria to be flown at half-mast until further notice.
The late Muhammadu Buhari, a key figure in Nigeria’s political history, served first as military Head of State from 1984 to 1985 and later as democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023. His influence spanned decades, shaping both Nigeria’s military and democratic landscapes.

According to the presidency, further details concerning funeral arrangements will be released in due course.
