PSG President Reacts After Club World Cup Defeat to Chelsea
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, has broken his silence following the club’s 3-0 defeat to Chelsea in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup final held at MetLife Stadium, New Jersey.
Reflecting on the disappointing end to what had otherwise been a historic season for the French champions, Al-Khelaifi attributed the loss to player fatigue, noting the physical and mental toll of a demanding campaign.
> “Congratulations to Chelsea. They deserved their victory,” Al-Khelaifi said post-match. “We wanted to win this Club World Cup, but it’s difficult. The players gave their all. They were tired. We had a great season, the best in the club’s history.”
Despite the setback, Al-Khelaifi remained gracious in defeat, praising Chelsea’s performance while expressing pride in PSG’s achievements under manager Luis Enrique. The Parisian giants had secured four major trophies earlier in the season and thrilled fans with their high-tempo, attacking brand of football.
However, PSG appeared jaded during the final, with Chelsea ruthlessly exploiting their defensive lapses to claim victory. The win marks Chelsea’s second Club World Cup title, reaffirming their resurgence under manager Enzo Maresca.
> “This defeat is good for us, for next season. We have to be humble. We’re the youngest team in the competition. We’re proud of the players and the staff,” Al-Khelaifi added, framing the loss as a valuable lesson for the club’s future ambitions.
For PSG, the focus now turns to building on this season’s domestic and continental successes, with hopes of returning even stronger next year.
