SEEPCO, VCD Foundation Offer Free Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening for Makoko Women
The Vcare for Development Foundation (VCDF), in partnership with Sebeccly Cancer Care and Support Centre and the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Lagos State Chapter, has provided free breast and cervical cancer screening for women in Makoko and surrounding communities.
The two-day programme, held on August 8–9, 2025, was supported by Sterling Oil Exploration & Energy Production Co. Ltd. (SEEPCO) and reached over 200 women, many of whom were being screened for the first time.

Health experts offered clinical breast examinations, Pap smears, ultrasound checks, and personalised counselling, while also teaching self-examination techniques. Women requiring further care were referred for follow-up.

VCDF Programme Manager, Philip Ukemezia, said the initiative aimed to break barriers to access and encourage early detection, while Sebeccly Cancer Care Founder, Dr. Omolola Salako, stressed that timely diagnosis significantly improves survival rates.
Organisers described the outreach as a step towards improving women’s health in underserved communities and a reminder that “their lives and health matter.”
