Anthony Joshua Returns to UK After Fatal Car Crash in Nigeria
Former world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua has returned to the United Kingdom following a tragic road accident in Nigeria that claimed the lives of two of his close associates.
The accident occurred on December 29 along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway when a Lexus SUV conveying Joshua and members of his entourage collided with a stationary truck. The crash resulted in the deaths of Kevin Latif Ayodele, Joshua’s personal trainer, and Sina Ghami, his strength and conditioning coach.

Joshua, 36, survived the incident and was immediately taken to a hospital in Lagos for medical attention. He reportedly sustained minor injuries and was discharged from the hospital on New Year’s Eve after receiving treatment.
Funeral arrangements for Ayodele and Ghami have since been concluded, with their burials scheduled to take place on Sunday at a mosque in London.
Meanwhile, Nigerian police have confirmed that the driver of the vehicle involved in the crash, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, has been formally charged. According to the Ogun State Police Command, Kayode faces charges of causing death by dangerous driving as well as operating a vehicle without a valid driver’s licence.
The charges were filed on Friday, and the case has been adjourned by a magistrate’s court until January 20. The court granted the defendant bail for ₦5 million, but he remains in custody pending the fulfilment of the bail conditions.

Although Joshua was born in England, he maintains strong ties to Nigeria, particularly his ancestral hometown of Sagamu in Ogun State, which he visits regularly. During a previous visit last year, the boxing star spent time with prominent Nigerian celebrities and presented President Bola Tinubu with a signed boxing glove.
Joshua’s most recent trip to Nigeria came just days after he recorded a knockout victory over Jake Paul in an exhibition heavyweight bout held at the Kaseya Centre in Miami, United States.
