The Ogun State Police Command has arraigned Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, the driver linked to Nigerian-British heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, in connection with a fatal road traffic accident that claimed the lives of two persons.
Kayode, aged 46, was on Friday brought before a Magistrate Court sitting in Sagamu following the completion of preliminary investigations by the police into the tragic incident.
The arraignment was confirmed in an official statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Ogun State Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, who disclosed that the case was adjourned to January 20, 2026, to allow for further hearing and continuation of legal processes.
According to the police, the defendant was driving a Lexus Sports Utility Vehicle involved in the accident, which occurred earlier in the week and resulted in the deaths of two individuals identified as Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele. The deceased were described as close associates of the internationally celebrated boxer.

DSP Babaseyi stated that the driver was formally charged before the court on January 2, 2026, in line with standard legal procedures governing traffic-related fatalities and ongoing criminal investigations.
“The Ogun State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that the driver of the Lexus SUV involved in the Anthony Joshua accident case, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, was today charged to the Sagamu Magistrate Court, and the case has been adjourned to January 20, 2026,” the statement read.
The Command had earlier announced that the driver was taken into custody shortly after the incident as part of routine investigative measures aimed at establishing the cause and circumstances surrounding the crash.
Police sources explained that such actions are standard practice in cases involving loss of life, stressing that the move was not intended to preempt the outcome of the investigation but to ensure due process and accountability.
The fatal accident, which occurred on Monday, generated widespread public interest and reactions across the country, largely due to Anthony Joshua’s global stature in the sporting world and the tragic nature of the incident.
While Anthony Joshua was reportedly present during the incident, the police have maintained that investigations are still ongoing and that all findings will be presented before the court as required by law.
The Ogun State Police Command reiterated its commitment to conducting a transparent, professional, and unbiased investigation, assuring the public that justice would be pursued without fear or favour.

DSP Babaseyi also appealed to members of the public to refrain from spreading unverified information or engaging in speculation capable of undermining the judicial process, urging patience as the matter progresses through the legal system.
As the case awaits its next hearing, sympathy continues to pour in for the families of the deceased, even as calls for increased road safety awareness and responsible driving gain renewed attention.
The Sagamu Magistrate Court is expected to resume hearing on the matter later this month.
