  • BREAKING: Goal Drought: Top Nigerian player, Boniface quits Super Eagles at age 24
Nigerian forward Victor Boniface has announced his decision to retire from international football at the age of 24.
The Bayer Leverkusen striker revealed the news in a post shared on his Instagram account late Friday night.
“Playing for Nigeria has been a dream come true. I’m grateful for every experience—both the highs and the lows. Thank you all. I’m hanging up my boots,” Boniface wrote, signaling the end of his time with the national team.
His announcement followed shortly after Nigeria’s 1-1 draw against Russia in an international friendly played in Moscow. Boniface led the Super Eagles’ attack from the start but was unable to score.
It was his replacement, Tolu Arokodare, who netted the equalizer in the 71st minute to secure a draw for the team.
Boniface has come under increasing criticism for his recent performances with the national team, particularly his struggles in front of goal.
His future at Bayer Leverkusen also remains uncertain following the recent appointment of Erik ten Hag as the club’s new manager, raising questions about how the striker fits into the team’s plans going forward.
