Breaking: Makinde Honours Olunloyo, Renames Polytechnic Ibadan After Late Former Governor
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has announced the renaming of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, in honour of the late elder statesman and former governor of the state, Dr. Omololu Olunloyo.
The governor made the pronouncement on Monday during a solemn interdenominational commendation service held at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium in Ibadan to celebrate the life and legacy of Olunloyo, who passed away in April at the age of 90.
“With immediate effect, the institution shall now be known as Omololu Olunloyo Polytechnic, Ibadan,” Governor Makinde declared to a crowd of mourners, dignitaries, and well-wishers.

The late Olunloyo, a respected mathematician and public servant, was not only a former governor of Oyo State but also the founding rector of the institution, making the tribute both symbolic and deeply personal.
Established in 1970, the Polytechnic has long been a cornerstone of technical education in the South-West. With the renaming, the state government aims to immortalise Olunloyo’s immense contributions to education, governance, and intellectual development in Nigeria.
Further details on the renaming and plans for the institution are expected to be released by the state government in due course.
