Deeper Life Church Reviews Wedding Guidelines
Pastor William Kumuyi, General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, has announced adjustments to some of the church’s marriage traditions, clarifying that they are administrative practices rather than divine commandments.
Speaking on the long-debated rules, Kumuyi disclosed that the policy barring ladies from visiting their suitors during courtship has been scrapped. He stated that intending couples may now visit each other, provided such meetings are accompanied by an elder.
The cleric emphasised the importance of Christians distinguishing between God’s laws and church-made principles, noting that the latter are flexible and subject to review.

“We just felt you needed some time to know one another. And then we said one month will be too short, two months too short. So why not six months? But it is not from the Bible,” Kumuyi explained.
He added that structures such as the marriage committee were created for administrative purposes and not because of any scriptural directive.

“There’s no marriage committee in the New Testament. We created it to help you, not because we can give you a chapter and a verse. It is church administration,” he said.
Kumuyi further cautioned church leaders against exercising powers beyond what God has given them, stressing that administrative guidelines must not be mistaken for divine law.
