Elon Musk Asks Congress To Impeach Trump
L-R President Trump and Mr. Elon Musk
In an unprecedented escalation of their public feud, billionaire Elon Musk has called for the impeachment of President Donald Trump, accusing him of corruption and abuse of power.
The stunning demand, posted early Friday on Musk’s platform X, follows a series of clashes between the former allies, further fracturing Trump’s political coalition.
Musk wrote, “ @realDonaldTrump must face impeachment for betraying the American people with corrupt deals and hiding the Epstein files. Time for accountability!” He offered no specific evidence but hinted at forthcoming revelations.
The call comes days after Musk resigned as co-lead of Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), protesting the president’s “One Big Beautiful Bill,” a $2.4 trillion tax and spending package Musk slammed as fiscally reckless.
Trump retaliated by cancelling billions in government contracts with Musk’s companies, Tesla and SpaceX, triggering a 14% plunge in Tesla’s stock.
Musk intensified the feud by alleging Trump’s name appears in unreleased Jeffrey Epstein files, a claim that drew fierce backlash from Trump loyalists, including Steve Bannon, who called Musk an “illegal alien” and demanded his deportation.
Musk’s impeachment call has stunned Washington, with House Democrats, including Rep. Dan Goldman (D-NY), seizing on the moment to renew demands for the Epstein files’ release. “If Musk’s claims have merit, Congress must investigate,” Goldman said.
However, Republican leaders, including House Speaker Mike Johnson, dismissed the call as “a desperate stunt by a disgruntled billionaire.”
Trump, speaking at a Mar-a-Lago event, mocked Musk as “Elon the Ungrateful,” insisting, “I made him rich, and now he’s biting the hand that fed him.”
The feud, dubbed the “implosion of MAGA’s bromance,” has exposed deep rifts within Trump’s base. Musk’s allegations, coupled with his earlier criticisms of Trump’s leadership, have alienated some supporters while emboldening critics.
Posts on X show polarised reactions, with some users praising Musk’s boldness and others accusing him of sabotaging the administration. As Tesla stock continues to slide, analysts warn of economic ripple effects.
With no concrete evidence yet supporting Musk’s claims, the call for impeachment faces long odds in a Republican-controlled Congress, but it ensures the Trump-Musk saga will dominate headlines for weeks.
