Hilda Baci’s Giant Jollof Pot Collapses at Guinness World Record Attempt
A record-breaking bid by celebrity chef Hilda Baci took a dramatic turn on Friday night when a giant pot of Jollof rice collapsed during weighing at the Gino World Jollof Festival in Lagos.
The event, staged at Eko Hotel and Suites, was aimed at setting a Guinness World Record for the largest pot of Nigerian Jollof. Thousands of fans, food lovers and celebrities, including actress Funke Akindele and rapper Falz, turned up for the attempt.

The custom-built pot, six metres tall and wide, was expected to hold up to 4,000 kilogrammes of rice — about 200 bags. But as a crane moved to lift it onto a scale, the massive container gave way under its own weight, collapsing and forcing organisers to suspend the proceedings.

No injuries were reported, but videos of the incident quickly went viral. A spokesperson for Baci’s team said safety remains the top priority and discussions are ongoing with officials on the way forward.
Baci, who became a household name in 2023 after her Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon, drew over 20,000 registered participants to Friday’s festival, reaffirming her star power despite the setback.
