LASG Orders Residents of Flood-Prone Areas in Lekki, Ikorodu, Isheri, Ajegunle to ‘Move Now’
Epe, Mushin, Ikeja declared generally safe — Wahab
The Lagos State Government has issued an urgent evacuation order to residents living in low-lying and flood-prone areas across Lekki, Ikorodu, Isheri, and Ajegunle, following heavy rainfall and widespread flooding across parts of the state.
Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, gave the directive on Tuesday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, warning that more torrential rains are expected in the coming weeks.

“Those around the Ajilete axis of Lagos — that’s Ajegunle — have to move,” Wahab stated. “Those around the coastline of Ikorodu, like Majidun, have to move. Some areas around the Lekki corridor too — not all. Isheri in the OPIC area also needs to be on high alert.”
The call to evacuate comes after marathon rainfall from Sunday night through Monday triggered severe flooding, with viral videos showing submerged vehicles, homes, and roads across Lagos.

Wahab urged residents in the affected communities to take the warning seriously and relocate to higher ground to avoid an avoidable disaster, emphasising that the government’s primary concern is public safety.
“We are not waiting for lives to be lost before we act. The rain patterns are changing, and everyone has a role to play in ensuring their safety,” he said.
He reassured residents of other parts of Lagos, such as Epe, Mushin, and Ikeja, noting that those areas are generally safe based on current flood risk assessments.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and other emergency units are expected to continue monitoring the situation and assisting affected communities.
Residents are urged to follow official updates and avoid circulating unverified reports.
