According to eyewitnesses, the fully loaded tanker, carrying Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), lost control while in motion and immediately burst into flames. The fire spread rapidly, engulfing trucks parked close to the accident scene. Preliminary investigations linked the accident to overspeeding by the tanker driver.
LASTMA operatives, supported by the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Neighbourhood Safety Corps, quickly cordoned off the affected corridor and diverted traffic to prevent further danger.
General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, said additional personnel were drafted from nearby zones to reinforce containment efforts. He expressed relief that no lives were lost and attributed the outcome to the swift action of responders.
