Notorious Gang Leader Nabbed as Lagos Police Recover Dangerous Weapons
A wave of violent crimes, including armed robberies, brutal murders, kidnappings, and cult-related killings, had long plagued several parts of the country—largely attributed to a criminal ringleader whose reign of terror left communities gripped by fear and insecurity.
Despite his repeated evasion of justice by fleeing from one state to another, the Lagos State Police Command remained unwavering in its commitment to apprehend him. That effort recently paid off when operatives raided his hideout in Mushin, Lagos, leading to a major breakthrough in the fight against organized crime.

During the operation, police officers recovered a large cache of firearms and other incriminating items, which the suspect—identified as Wasiu Akinwande, also known as Olori Eso—confessed were tools used in his gang’s violent operations.
Among the recovered items were two AK-47 rifles, one K2 assault rifle, one Red Ryder rifle, three pump-action rifles, two locally made single-barrel pistols, five magazines, 57 live cartridges, 70 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, 27 rounds of 9mm ammunition, one spent 5.56mm cartridge, a dagger, three walkie-talkies, and nine international passports belonging to different individuals.
Following his arrest, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police, State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), to head a special team of detectives to deepen the investigation and apprehend other members of the gang associated with Akinwande.
