Putin Orders Ban on Foreign-Made Clothing for Russian Military from 2026
Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree prohibiting the purchase of foreign-made clothing and equipment for the country’s armed forces, effective January 1, 2026.
Under the new directive, all uniforms and related items for the Russian Armed Forces must be produced by domestic companies with manufacturing facilities located inside Russia.

The restriction will tighten further from 2027, when even the fabrics and knitted materials used in military production must also be sourced locally.
According to the decree, the policy aims to eliminate the military’s reliance on foreign-made clothing and materials.

The ban covers a wide range of military apparel and gear, including uniforms, insignia, underwear, bedding, special clothing, footwear, equipment, and sanitary supplies. These items are procured through Russia’s state defence order system.
