In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, the suspect was named as Umar Mohammed, a resident of Anguwan Muazu, Kaduna. The police said his unexpected intrusion into a secured area during the event sparked initial fears but was quickly brought under control.
According to the police report, Umar had been screened and admitted into the venue like other attendees, wearing a branded APC campaign shirt and holding banners featuring images of President Tinubu and Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani. However, at the height of the ceremony, he suddenly broke through security barricades in what officials described as an attempt to approach the President out of “excitement and curiosity.”

Security operatives swiftly apprehended him before he could make further advances. A thorough search revealed no weapons or dangerous items in his possession.
Further investigation by the Command revealed that Umar Mohammed has a known psychiatric condition, which the police say likely contributed to his erratic behaviour.
Amid speculation and political commentary surrounding the incident, Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Yusuf Muhammad, appealed to the public to refrain from spreading falsehoods or politicising the event.
“The situation is fully under control, and we urge the public not to read unnecessary meaning into what was an isolated incident involving an individual with mental health challenges,” the statement noted.
The Command assured that additional reviews would be conducted to ensure continued safety at high-level public events, while also emphasising the importance of responsible reporting and public calm.
