Tinubu Showers Super Falcons with National Honours, N150m Cash, and Abuja Apartments
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has honoured Nigeria’s Super Falcons in grand style following their historic 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title win.
Each of the 24 players on the squad has been awarded the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON). Alongside the prestigious recognition, the President announced a generous $100,000 (approximately ₦150 million) cash gift to each player. The 11 members of the coaching and technical crew were also not left out, receiving $50,000 (₦75 million) each.
As part of the reward package, every team member and staff member will receive a three-bedroom flat located within the Renewed Hope Estate in Abuja.
The celebratory event took place at the Presidential Villa, where the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, and the Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, welcomed the team. The Super Falcons had just returned from Morocco, where they staged a thrilling 3-2 comeback victory over the Atlas Lionesses, sealing their place as Africa’s most successful women’s football team.

President Tinubu, who joined the team in a post-match video call, singled out Captain Rasheedat Ajibade, the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP), for her inspiring leadership.
The latest WAFCON triumph adds to Nigeria’s golden run of titles in 2014, 2016, 2018, and now 2024, further solidifying the Falcons’ legacy in African women’s football.
