WAEC Withholds Results of 2025 WASSCE Candidates Over Alleged Malpractice — Full List of Affected Schools Released
In what appears to be a significant clampdown on examination malpractice, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced the withholding of results for candidates in several schools across Nigeria who sat for the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The Council, in a statement issued on Monday, August 4, revealed that the results of over 192,000 candidates are currently being withheld pending the outcome of ongoing investigations into alleged infractions during the May/June examination cycle.

The notice, signed by the Director of Examination Malpractice and Irregularities, Dr Florence Omobonike Ajayi, listed the affected schools and directed all school heads to report to WAEC’s Lagos Zonal Office within 10 working days. Principals are expected to appear before an investigative panel by August 16, accompanied by relevant documentation and, where necessary, the candidates’ examination scripts.

“This action aligns with the Council’s unwavering commitment to upholding integrity in the conduct of its examinations,” the statement read.
WAEC also urged school authorities to cooperate fully with the investigation, warning that failure to do so could result in further sanctions.
Among the affected institutions are some of the country’s most prominent public and private schools, including Queen’s College Yaba, King’s College Lagos, Grange School Ikeja, Dowen College Lekki, Faith Academy Ota, University of Lagos International School, Loyola Jesuit College Abuja, and many others spanning states like Lagos, Oyo, Ogun, Rivers, Enugu, Delta, and the FCT.
The Council reaffirmed its resolve to tackle examination malpractice head-on and reiterated that only candidates found to be innocent after the probe would have their results eventually released.
