Why I Left Annie — 2Baba Breaks Silence on Separation
Legendary Nigerian singer, Innocent ‘2Baba’ Idibia, has opened up for the first time about his separation from his wife and actress Annie Macaulay, bringing clarity to one of the most talked-about celebrity breakups in Nigeria.
Speaking during a candid conversation on the 234 Mzansi Podcast, the 49-year-old music icon reflected on the decision to end their marriage, saying both parties gave the relationship their best shot before mutually agreeing to part ways.

“I think both of us gave it our best,” 2Baba said. “And why we’re not together today is not something I’m going to talk about publicly. Me and her have our own understanding. She’s amazing, it just wasn’t working anymore.”
The couple tied the knot in May 2012 and weathered several public and private storms over their 13-year union. They formally separated in January 2025, a development that sent shockwaves through fans and the entertainment community.
2Baba noted that while he encourages couples to try and work through their differences, staying together at all costs is not always healthy.
“I think you should try to fix your marriage, but if it’s beyond that, I don’t think anybody should force anything,” he explained. “Only the people inside the marriage know exactly what they’re feeling.”
He also spoke about the dangers of societal pressure, emphasising the need for individuals to prioritise peace of mind over public expectations.
“Don’t let society or people dictate your feelings. Many people have gone to their graves sad because they were living in bondage,” he added.

On a more controversial note, 2Baba stirred debate with his comments on male sexuality. He suggested that, biologically, men are not wired for complete sexual fidelity, though they can choose to stay loyal.
“A man is not built to be with one woman sexually. His love and respect can be for one woman, but sexually, it’s difficult,” he stated. “An individual can choose to be faithful, but the biology is real. Accepting that would save many from unnecessary heartache.”
Since the separation, 2Baba has moved on and is now engaged to Natasha Osawaru, a member of the Edo State House of Assembly. The couple confirmed their relationship in February 2025, and insiders say their bond has continued to grow stronger.
As one chapter closes, another begins for 2Baba — this time, with less drama and a renewed focus on peace and personal happiness.
